Your low end is accumulating and you hear more bass than there is. Though until you solve the room problem you will only be able to up your game to an extent and still face certain problems.Ĭheck our this articles, its very informative. Yea Focals are among the best in 1-2k range. (but I do like the bass!) I may need to look into it's placement as I've got it under the mixing desk currently.Īpologies to the OP, I know this is wayyyyy off topic!Ĭlick to expand.I get your problems man, this is common in untreated rooms. My idea was just to use it for low end checking and when I'm working on the low end, but that hasn't yielded acceptable results as my mixes are low end heavy.
I've also got the 10" Sub that goes with these. I suppose I could "sweep" the room again. I guess I'm worried about introducing more problems than I fix. I guess the thing that's killing me is that I can hear the low end so much clearer and precise in a truck (think about that listening environment) with a pair of 10" MTX Subs than I can in my mix room with "studio reference monitors"! Maybe I just need to mix in my truck.Īpologies to the OP, I know this is wayyyyy off thank you for the recommendation! I see that my KRK's also have some adjustments. I've heard the difference between my KRK's and a set of Focals and when the guy that sold them to me upgraded, it was like you pulled a blanket off of the speakers listening to those Focals.

If I upgrade monitors at this point, I think it's maybe better to save and try to go for something in the $1K a piece range. I strongly feel my problem is more-so with the listening environment than the monitors themselves. According to SpencerLee, he does this room compensation eq'ing so maybe I should too.
Still, I'm reluctant to mix into that eq because I don't know if it's going to introduce phase problems itself which I'd think would worsen the problem or create new different problems. Ceilings are low (~7') and it's not a very large room. Then I swept through the bands with a tone and tried to get all bands to sound the same in volume (by my ears sitting in the mix position) and I've got to say that the curve was spectacularly odd so I know I've got some phase cancellation and other problems going on in that room (or my ears are just plain f**ked). One thing I did do was purchase a Samson 32 band graphic EQ. (but I do like the bass!) I may need to look into it's placement as I've got it under the mixing desk currently. Thank you for the recommendation! I see that my KRK's also have some adjustments.
